The Penn Biomedical Microfluidics Center (PBMC) will conduct training activities to educate Research Base users, students, and the broader research community in the design, fabrication, and use of microfluidic devices. The PBMC will train research base users in the engineering, fabrication, and operation of microfluidic devices as well as the proper setup of experiments and operation of microfluidic devices. To accomplish this training of the user base, we will develop an annual 2-day microfluidics bootcamp and will create online tutorials that demonstrate setup and operation of microfluidic experiments. The PBMC will also train the next generation of researchers and the broader research community in the design, fabrication, and operation of microscale devices for research in the biological and health sciences. This broader training effort will be realized through several microfluidic and microfabrication courses at the University of Pennsylvania for which the PBMC will work to add stronger hands-on lab components, a seminar series featuring leading researchers in microfluidics for biological and medical research that the PBMC will organize, and a short course on microfluidics that will be offered at medical research conferences.
